Real estate is more than just buying and selling of homes. Global responsibility within real estate includes considerations of green/environmental issues, alternative living situations such a co housing and options for those over the age of 55 and financial considerations. Responsible financing of real estate can result in positive outcomes such as through the collaborative efforts of Habitat for Humanity which helps the working poor achieve ownership. Unfortunately, irresponsible financing of real estate currently shaping the real estate market is the subprime mortgage meltdown.
People in the USA are unaware of the tremendous amount of adults in this country who are functionally illiterate. Every few years a national study is done that shows a significant portion of the population cannot read, write, do math or speak English at a level which allows them to become more productive workers and members of our society. These are the present workforce. How are we going to re-build the economy with a workforce that needs to be re-trained and re-educated?
This is a key issue of government and corporate responsibility. Who should deal with this?
